Golden LinseedFour Foods That Help Protect Against Heart Disease
In the United States heart disease ranks as one of the top three causes of death annually for Americans. However, there are many things that we can do to help protect ourselves against heart disease on a daily bases.
One way of fighting heart disease is to eat foods that promote a healthy heart. There are four foods in particular that you can eat on a regular bases that can aid you in the fight against heart disease. These four foods are listed below, in no particular order of importance, along with some related information.
1. Oatmeal ? Oatmeal is a great source of fiber. This is good because fiber helps to lower cholesterol which is a contributor to heart disease. Also, oatmeal will keep you full until your next meal which makes it easier not to be tempted by unhealthy snacks in between meals.
It's important to note that the oatmeal I am referring to is whole grains, not refined grains. Refined or processed grains lose their nutrients and fiber. Therefore, you need to eat whole grain oatmeal to get the benefits from eating oatmeal in relation to promoting a healthy heart.
2. Spinach - Spinach is high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that may protect against cardiovascular disease and also it is rich in folate which helps reduce the blood levels of the amino acid homocysteine which is believed to be a risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease.
3. Blueberries - Blueberries are rich in antioxidants which some believe work to reduce the buildup of "bad" LDL cholesterol in artery walls that contributes to cardiovascular disease and stroke.
4. Salmon - Salmon is loaded with a healthy fat called omega-3 fatty acids. This fat is believed to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease by lowering the levels of triglycerides in the body.
These four foods alone are not an answer to heart disease; however, eating these foods is a good start. You can help protect yourself against heart disease by learning more about what causes heart disease and what you can do to help prevent heart disease. So gain as much knowledge about heart disease as you can starting today.
Remember, take care of your heart and it will help take care of you.

The most important section of steak grilling tips deal with the doneness of the steak. A rare-done steak has tender, soft core enveloped in a seared outer layer. A medium-done steak is more evenly cooked with a brown exterior and semi-firm inner layers. Well-done steaks, on the other hand, are firm to the core.
The best way to ensure that a steak is cooked to your desired degree of doneness is to use a thermometer. Do not use forks or spatulas. They would puncture the steak causing the juice to flow out. A rare-done meat should be ready by the time the thermometer reads 140 on the Fahrenheit scale. Similarly, the ideal temperatures for medium-cooked and well-cooked steaks are 160 and 170 respectively. Remember, the cooking process continues even after you take the steak off the grill.
